(P.S: keine AB-Thematik!)

Sleeping Secret

Part 1: Midnight Mystery

Leon walked through a valley of stones, who gave him hints about their age and use. Everything around him was old, too old for him to describe it. However, it seemed strange to him, since he never saw a place like this before, neither in his life nor in his imagination. And still he had seen it before, in his dreams. The old ruins around him always appeared in his dreams, covered in fog and shadows.

Exactly like in his dreams, he could hear the voice now, mysteriously talking to him. The voice seemed to go directly into his mind, words that he did not understand were turning into pictures. He could see it now, the place how it was before, a paradise built of stone and gold. Phantoms of the past appearing around him in a unreal manner, like shadows trying to play a act. They ignored him, but their whole attention was focused on the being in front of them.

A mysterious shadow in front of the full moon, resembling a woman in most of her appearance but with something strange on her face. Leon could hardly tell, but it looked like a mask with feline features. Most of her body was hidden by darkness, but he could still tell that she was wearing something, which seemed like a dress made of soft light.

The sight was fascinating him, but then she vanished and the silhouettes around him were changing again. The silhouettes now looked more human and were vanishing one after another into the darkness. The place changed back into the ruins he knew before and Leon was even more confused. Was he insane now? Or is there some kind of poison in this place that was causing him to see things?

Knowing that he was alone, he started to relax a little bit and took a deep breath in. The air seemed surprisingly dry. He sat down on one of the ruin stones and closed his eyes for a short moment and enjoyed the empty black of his vision. His joy wasn’t lasting long. As soon as he opened his eyes again, he saw something in front of him.

It was the mysterious woman he saw in his illusion and again the light from behind her was blinding him and mostly hiding her appearance. The contours of her head still seemed strange and feline, but this time he could see one detail he hadn’t seen before. It were her eyes, glowing bright and yet gently towards him. It seemed as if she was able to look deep inside of him, deep enough where no cloth, no skin and no flesh could still hide anything.

Leon was stunned, not able to fight back, to run away or to even think clearly at all. The stare was nearly hypnotic, but he could still see her hands reaching out for his face. Again he could hear her voice and this time he could feel the meaning.

“ This place is the world known as dreams, older than humankind or any of its buildings. A place without time and a connection between what once was and what someday will be. A place between life and death… and you saw the day when the old beings, named gods, left your world. Leaving their children behind…”

His eyes opened wide, not really able to understand what he was expected to understand. But the stare did not end, as was as the mysterious voice and the strange feeling.

“ They were granted the favour to hide. But time was going on and they forget the past. Forgetting that…”

Leon could feel a soft touch around his face and then saw how something was pulled off. He could not remember having something on his face, but still he could clearly see it between her hands as she pulled them back from him. As she turned it around, he could see that it was something like a mask and his blood began to freeze as he realised that it was his face he was looking into right now.

Part 2: Lovely Lady

Awaking from his dream, Leon nearly jumped off the bed in terror. His heart was beating fast, as if it was trying to run away from the terrors of the last night. Cold sweat was all over his body, shimmering in the warm light of the sun that was pouring into the room through the big open window. As he looked towards the window, he could see that it already was late in the morning and that the weather was beyond nice. Everything seemed idyllic and peaceful, but his dream was still giving him a bad feeling.

After a few moments, he had calmed down that far and went towards the bath. Never before, he had felt that much happiness from seeing his own face. The same grey eyes that always looked back at him were still there and nothing had changed. He smiled relieved and lightly went with his hand through his short blond hair. “As if anything would have changed, it was just a dream. “ was he telling himself and went under the shower.

The motel was not the best, so he was happy to leave and have a breakfast somewhere else. His way wasn’t that long anymore, only a few miles on a road through mountains and forests were left. And at the end, he would be able to visit his old hometown again. The reason was simply the fact that he needed to relax and that he had made the best experiences in the place where he lived most of his life. There he truly felt to be home.

In the middle of nowhere and surrounded by trees, he finally saw the first houses. “Silent Hollow” was this town named and it sure was a fitting name. The town wasn’t small, but the buildings were old, with their own beauty. Even older were some of the trees that were still standing in and around the town. Most of the homes even were outside of the town, which made this place a paradise for hermits and nature lover.

Leon took the street towards his parent’s old house and soon the street turned into a path. He seemed to be drawn deeper and deeper into the forest. The forests roof closing even more and darkened the whole place. But then he finally saw the light of the sun again as he reached the house. It seemed even older than most buildings before, but mostly because of the fact that it was empty right now. Parking his car near the house, he grabbed as much luggage as he could carry and went towards the door.

The inside of the house wasn’t that bad at all. Of course there was dust everywhere, but all the old furniture was still there and looked great. It looked a bit empty and creepy without anyone living in it, but Leon was even more than happy that he could change that fact for the next weeks.

After a little cleaning up for some hours, the house looked as good as he had it in mind when leaving this place some years ago. The day was nearly over, when he heard a knocking on the door. Leon haven’t told anyone about his return yet and this place was supposed to be empty, so he was wondering who it could be. The knocking came again and he went to the door
The least thing he would have expected was a big, long hug as soon as he had opened the door.

He couldn’t stop laughing, as he saw that his old childhood friend Elenor. “You haven’t changed at all.” Was he telling her with a big grin as she pulled back from the hug. Her dark brown eyes were still hiding behind glasses like always, but he could tell that she had a better taste now when it came to her glasses. They were more modern and were suiting her face even better to look smart and playful at the same time. Her black hair was still long and curly, but had lost a little bit of its wildness. She finally seemed to have tamed it.

“You sure have” was she telling Leon and looked more closely. “Now I'm no longer the tallest of us both, even if you are just a bit taller. Well, what takes you to this place? “ was she asking and stared at him curiously.
“I just felt the need to come back for some nice days without work…” was he trying to explain, but Elenor already had started to interrupt him. “ That’s great, you still know the summer festival? It is the day after tomorrow. You could join, nearly everyone will be there. You will be there, right?”
“How could I ever forget, of course I will be there.” He was very good at lying, because he sure had forgotten that the festival was this week.
“That’s great” Elenor said in an excited manner and added fast: “ Would you be so nice to pick me up for the festival? My car broke down some days ago and it will most likely not be fixed until the next week…. Thanks a lot, bye.”

She disappeared as turbulent as she appeared. “What was…” was Leon trying to say, but then he just smiled and went back to the kitchen. She truly haven’t changed at all, at least not in the way she was. However he could not hide the fact that she was now a real woman, even a very pretty one. And he could not hide the feeling, that he now had a date for friday night. “ Not bad for the first day… “ was he joking to himself and tried his best to find something to eat in the old pantry next to the kitchen.
